Looking to Move Country

Moving country may seem daunting, but with careful planning and thought you can make the move less stressful.

Plan, Prepare and Plan Some More

Whatever your reason for relocating, you first need to think about your accommodation upon arrival. Is it furnished? Are you going to have double of anything when you arrive? If so, make plans to sell or store your items in advance.

Packing for the move can be overwhelming, which is why the earlier you start, the better. Use heavy duty packing materials because thin cardboard boxes just won’t cut it. Label everything methodically and include the room it should go in. You will thank yourself when you get there.

You will obviously need to take care of the bills when you leave, but have you thought about other important aspects? Make sure you have insurance set up for yourself, your family and of course, your belongings that are being shipped along with you. Passports will all need to be up to date, visas (if applicable) confirmed and all travel arrangements made.

When choosing a shipping company to help with the move, make sure you do your research. Get plenty of quotes and check their reviews to see what others customers have said. The cheapest company may not necessarily be the best.

Once the big day comes, make sure you have a tested method of communication with the movers should you need to contact them. It’s always a good idea to make an inventory list so you know exactly what should be arriving at the other end. It’s also important to ensure you are aware of their timescales – after all, you don’t want to be waiting around for your items to arrive. You should also give the movers a plan of the house so they know exactly where everything should go, therefore making the unloading process much more efficient.

Remember, you can’t over plan moving country!
