Keeping Gas & Electric Bills Low

With so many prices going up recently, many of us are feeling the pinch. If you’re planning to move soon and you’d like to think about how you can save money prior to the big day, we’ve put together some quick and easy money-saving tips for keeping gas and electric bills low:

Turn it down, turn it off, and turn it around!

1. Wash clothes at a lower temperature: Reducing the temperature of a wash from 40°to 30°could reduce your machine’s energy usage by around 40%. It will also help your clothes to last longer and look brighter.

2. Turn off appliances when not in use: Switching off appliances, such as TVs, at the plug rather than leaving them on standby could save you an average £30 a year.

3. Switch your shower head: Some modern high-volume showers use as much water in five minutes as a bath. Changing your shower head to an eco model means that you can still enjoy the powerful shower sensation but you’ll be using a lot less water. You could also consider using a shower timer to try and reduce the amount of time you’re under the water.

4. Turn down your thermostat: Lowering your thermostat by just one degree can save an amazing £80 over the course of a year.

5. Invest in LED light bulbs: Not only are LED lightbulbs more efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs, but they also last longer. Switching to an LED bulb in an average light fitting could also save you £180 over the bulb’s lifetime.

Hopefully, by following some of these tips, you can reduce your household gas and electricity bills and save your hard-earned money to put towards your new dream home.
